KUCHING: Eighty students from Kolej Komuniti Kuching (KKKG) enhanced their cyber safety awareness after participating in the Safe Internet Campaign organised by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission here today.

Held at the college’s multipurpose hall, the programme aimed to equip youths with practical knowledge on safeguarding personal data and recognising increasingly sophisticated online crime tactics.

Kuching MCMC’s Assistant Director, Ahmad Saufi Jemat, noted that digital vigilance must become a daily practice among young internet users navigating evolving cyber threats.

“Awareness of digital safety is no longer optional but a shared responsibility across society, especially among students who actively engage in online platforms.”

He stressed that ethical and responsible internet usage, coupled with strong self-discipline, remains the first line of defence against potential cyber risks.

“I urge students to exercise self-control and think critically before responding to online interactions as cyberspace demands caution and maturity.”

Ahmad Saufi also cautioned participants against falling victim to online manipulation, particularly through persuasive language or seemingly trustworthy digital acquaintances.

“Uncontrolled sharing of personal information can expose individuals to scams and identity theft. Always practise the principle of ‘verify before you share’.”

The session further covered social media ethics, responsible content sharing, and recognising red flags associated with emerging scam methods targeting youths.

To reinforce learning outcomes, organisers conducted an interactive quiz assessing students’ understanding of scam risks and the latest cybercrime modus operandi.

The initiative reflects ongoing collaboration between KKKG and MCMC to nurture a digitally literate student community capable of making informed online decisions.

College director, Sumbang Mandaw, described the programme as timely, noting that digital exposure among students continues to expand alongside technological advancements.
