KUCHING: Cypark Resources Berhad is expanding its board of directors from five to seven members, appointing Tan Sri Abdul Wahid Omar as its new Independent Non-Executive Chair and bringing in Datuk Gue See Sew as an Independent Non-Executive Director.
The company stated that both appointments take effect on June 9.
It pointed out that the changes coincide with Datuk Hamidah Moris, currently serving as Chair, stepping into the role of Group Managing Director.
“This move reflects our commitment to strengthening governance, separating the roles of Chair and Managing Director, and reinforcing operational leadership,” it said in a statement.
Abdul Wahid, who has held top roles in government-linked and private organisations, is expected to provide guidance in Cypark’s next phase of growth.
He previously chaired Bursa Malaysia and served as Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department for Economic Planning.
His corporate leadership track record includes stints as Group Chairman of Permodalan Nasional Berhad, President and CEO of Maybank, Group CEO of Telekom Malaysia, and MD/CEO of UEM Group.
Furthermore, he currently chairs WWF Malaysia and the MySDG Foundation.
Meanwhile, Gue brings a civil engineering background and international advisory experience.
He holds a doctorate from the University of Oxford and is Co-Founder and Director of G&P Professionals.
He is also Chair of the Technical Advisory Panel for Penang and Technical Advisor to the Mayor of Kuala Lumpur.
He previously chaired the International Professional Engineers Agreement and served two terms as International Chair of the APEC Engineer Coordinating Committee.
Commenting on the appointments, Hamidah said the company is well positioned for further growth.
“Cypark is poised for its next leap forward. Over the past 12 months, we’ve added 270MWp of solar energy capacity and improved the energy generation performance from our waste-to-energy facility by 25 per cent.
“These results are a testament to the resilience of our reconstituted board in 2024 and the new leadership team’s commitment to excellence.
“With Abdul Wahid’s experience and governance acumen, and Gue’s technical expertise, Cypark is actively shaping Malaysia’s clean energy future with integrity, innovation, and impact,” she said.
