KUCHING: A concrete walkway at Lorong Stampin Tengah 5/3B in Green Heights, previously damaged by structural cracks, has been repaired and handed back to the community following a collaborative initiative.
The joint effort involving local residents, the Kuching South City Council (MBKS), and Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap.
The issue was first brought to the council’s attention through a resident’s complaint lodged on Feb 21.
Prompt coordination between MBKS and Yap led to a swift assessment and the securing of funds to carry out the necessary repairs.
During a final site inspection today, MBKS Mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng lauded the strong cooperation between the council, elected representatives, and the community in addressing the safety hazard.
“This case shows how effective governance can be when everyone plays their part whereby the community reports, the council acts, and representatives support with resources,” Wee said.
Yap’s role in facilitating funding was acknowledged by both the council and grateful residents, several of whom were present during the visit alongside MBKS engineers.
Wee also encouraged the public to report infrastructure issues through the appropriate channels, noting that such engagement enables faster and more effective responses.
“We should adopt a more solutions-oriented approach to civic matters. Rather than pointing fingers, let’s work together to identify problems and secure the resources needed to resolve them,” he added.
Residents expressed appreciation for the restoration of the walkway, calling it a much-needed improvement to neighbourhood safety.
