KUCHING: Denmark’s Ambassador to Malaysia, H.E. Kirstine Vangkilde Berner, today led a delegation on a courtesy visit to the Minister for Transport (MOT) Sarawak Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin.

The aim of the visit was to explore potential cooperation between Denmark and Sarawak in the fields of sustainable transport and green energy.

During the meeting, the ambassador expressed Denmark’s support for Sarawak’s ambitious development vision, particularly in advancing environmentally friendly and future-ready transportation systems.

Lee briefed the delegation on the ministry’s key initiatives, including the ongoing development of the KUTS’ hydrogen-powered Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) system, the first of its kind in Malaysia which underscored Sarawak’s commitment to sustainability and green hydrogen as a clean energy source.

He also shared updates on the planned construction of the new Kuching International Airport, which would serve as a modern gateway to the region and a catalyst for economic growth.

Lee later said both sides discussed opportunities for collaboration in research and development, with a particular focus on hydrogen production, sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and other innovative solutions that could enhance Sarawak’s transport infrastructure while reducing carbon emissions.

“My ministry looks forward to forging closer ties with Denmark in technology exchange, expertise sharing and joint projects that align with Sarawak’s sustainable transport and green energy agenda,” he added.

Also present at the meeting were the ministry’s deputy permanent secretary, Selamat Jati Yanjah, and aviation technical advisor, Sio Yew Hua.

From the Danish Embassy, attendees included head of trade, Mark Perry; commercial advisor, Jennifer Tang and counsellor for food, agriculture and fisheries, Kristian Norfelt.
