KUCHING: Denmark, recognised as a leading maritime nation, aims to strengthen bilateral ties by contributing its expertise, experience, and commercial capabilities to support Sarawak’s sustainable growth.
This was conveyed during a courtesy visit by Danish Ambassador, Her Excellency Kirstine Vangklide Berner, to Deputy Premier and Minister for Infrastructure and Ports Development, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, at his office here.
Uggah was joined by key officials from the ministry, including Permanent Secretary, Datuk Chiew Chee Yaw; Deputy Permanent Secretary, Latiff Coupon; Sarawak Port adviser, Datuk Ian James; and Kuching Port Authority General Manager, Robert Lau.
During the meeting, Uggah shared an overview of his portfolio and highlighted Sarawak’s commitment to forging smart international partnerships to support its development agenda.
He emphasised the importance of global collaboration, particularly in infrastructure and port development.
The Danish delegation expressed interest in exploring growth opportunities within Sarawak’s maritime and logistics sectors.
Earlier that day, Kirstine also paid a courtesy call on the Premier of Sarawak, where she commended the state’s rapid development.
She underlined Denmark’s readiness to collaborate on green transition efforts, particularly in areas such as sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), hydrogen, and sustainability initiatives.
Accompanying the ambassador were Mark Perry, head of trade at the Embassy of Denmark; commercial adviser, Jennifer Tang; representatives from Danish firms, Blue Water Shipping and Topsoe; and Ambassador Fenny Nuli, Director of the Sarawak Regional Office, for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia.
