KUCHING: DAP Sri Aman Liaison Committee members led by Leon Jimat Donald paid a courtesy visit to Bintulu Port Authority (BPA) chairman Dr John Brian Anthony yesterday morning.
Dr John Brian was appointed as the chairman two months ago by Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook.
In his briefing to the delegation, Dr John explained that under the previous BN administration, the development of Bintulu Port was very much neglected.
He added that there was never any proper planning going forward circumventing the tough economic times.
He also said that a Master Plan would be formulated to expand Bintulu Port.
Meanwhile, Leon said that he was looking into ways on how to develop Sri Aman for the next 10 years as the division and especially the southern region of Sarawak were not under the state government’s radar for any positive economic development.
Using Bintulu Port as a straight connection to Chinese markets is a boon to the state.
For all to benefit from the abundance in the state, the people must change government of the day and replace it with Pakatan Harapan. A competent, transparent and accountable government that is business-friendly will be a boon in opening up opportunities in Bintulu and Sarawak as a whole.
We are confident that with Dr John Brian’s appointment, he will further enhance the position and business opportunities of Bintulu Port which will inadvertently benefit our state, said Leon.
