MIRI: A striking blend of elegance and eloquence won the hearts of the judges and audience alike as 23-year-old Daphne Baun David was crowned Miss Gawai Sarawak 2025 in a dazzling finale attended by over 2,000 guests.
Representing the Kenyah community, Daphne stood out not just for her poise and grace, but for the conviction in her voice.
During the question-and-answer segment, she was asked to choose between two defining traits: beauty or intelligence.
With remarkable composure, she replied:
“To me, there’s a quote I hold close: beauty can take you anywhere, but intelligence can make you stay.
“As the titleholder of Miss Gawai Sarawak 2025, I believe we are more than just pretty faces. We are advocates, speakers and role models for the younger generation.”
Her heartfelt answer earned thunderous applause and visibly moved the panel of judges, sealing her place as this year’s winner.

For her win, Daphne took home RM15,000 in cash, an education scholarship worth RM20,000, a trophy, sash and a certificate of participation.
