DARO: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg officially opened the new building of the Daro Community Rehabilitation Centre (PDK) here, signifying the government’s commitment to strengthening rehabilitation and welfare programmes for those in need.
According to a statement by the Public Works Department (PWD) Sarawak, the new building will provide a more comfortable and well-equipped environment for individuals with special needs in the district.
Covering an area of approximately 1,297 square metres, the building was built at a cost of RM1.1 million.
Construction began on April 16 last year and was completed on Feb 21.
“With this new building, PDK programmes can be implemented more effectively while also raising community awareness about the importance of rehabilitation and care for individuals with special needs,” PWD said in the statement handed out at the ceremony on Saturday (Feb 22).
PWD added that the building includes activity rooms, offices, and other support facilities.
The development of the new PDK Daro building is part of an effort to replace the old structure, which no longer meets operational needs or the welfare requirements of special needs individuals due to space constraints, inadequate facilities, and its deteriorating physical condition.
“This initiative ultimately aims to provide a more comfortable, safe, and disability-friendly environment.
“The government hopes that the development of PDK Daro will serve as a catalyst for strengthening community welfare efforts while fostering a more holistic ecosystem for the well-being of the residents in the Daro district,” said PWD.
Also present were Women, Childhood and Community Well-being Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah, Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Office (Law, MA63 and Federal-State Relations) Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Syeed Aman Ghazali, Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) Speaker, Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nasar, Utilities and Telecommunications Minister Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi, Daro Assemblyman Safiee Ahmad and Sarawak State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki.
