Daro poised for significant transformation with several development projects

SIBU: The socioeconomic landscape of Daro district is poised for significant transformation with the implementation of several people-focused development projects.

According to Daro assemblyman Safiee Ahmad, the government has approved an allocation of RM95 million to construct a 14km road connecting seven longhouses in Batang Lassa.

He also said that a new school has been plan to replace the existing SK Batang Lassa, which is facing severe soil erosion, endangering the safety and well-being of its students.

“The government has allocated an 8-acre site, and the federal government has approved funding for a new school, complete with hostel facilities and other amenities.

“The project is estimated to cost RM65 million, including land acquisition expenses. I have been informed that compensation for the identified land has already been paid.”

Safiee said this when met by reporters after officiating the Enhancing Community Leaders (KMKK) Programme for Daro constituency at the Sibu Islamic Complex here, Wednesday (Nov 27).

He added that the new school has been prioritised under the 12th Malaysia Plan (RMK12) and will be implemented soon.

“This is a unique boarding school. Once relocated, the new site will already have electricity, and a RM16.5 million water supply project has been approved for implementation next year.”

Safiee also highlighted another major road project worth RM80 million, which is nearing the final stages of tender evaluation.

“The project is expected to be awarded by early next year for construction,” he said, referring to the 11km road connecting Nanga Singat to Sungai Lengan, which will eventually link to the Sibu-Tanjung Manis road.

“This road will significantly improve connectivity in the area, passing through agricultural zones and boosting farming activities.

“Previously, residents faced difficulties accessing their land. This development presents a golden opportunity for the local community to enhance their quality of life, aligning with the government’s vision of making Sarawak a developed state by 2030.”

Meanwhile, Safiee hoped that the programme will continue next year as it has provide good platform to deliver latest government information on policies and project.

“I believe that having the latest information will assist them (community leader) in carrying out their duties more effectively.”

Also present were Division Resident’s Office representative Haider Kowel Bete, Sarawak Economic Planning Unit representative Sophia Gira and Temenggung Stanley Geramong Bandar.
