WITH SK Hijrah Badong being the only school in Daro constituency that provide special education class, the Federal Education Ministry have been urged to find the best way to provide more special education in the rural area.

Daro Assemblyman, Safiee Ahmad, said that this would allow special children to be educated using appropriate methodologies or teaching techniques, enabling their talents and potential to be developed so they can become successful individuals in the future.

“The aspect of education is extremely important, especially at the primary school level, and it has been found that the high dropout rate among students, particularly those in rural areas is largely made up of children who require special education.

“This issue arises because not all national schools, especially those in rural areas, have special education classes.

“As a result, these special children do not receive the proper education they deserve and are left behind compared to their peers,” he said.

Safiee added that there is a need to develop a dedicated Form Six centre or college in the Daro district to provide a conducive educational facility specifically for pre-university students.

“This centre should be equipped with the necessary resources, including those for students pursuing science and technology streams, as well as comfortable dormitory accommodations.

“This is important to ensure that the quality of education, especially for students in rural areas, can be strengthened, enabling them to successfully pursue their studies at the university level.

“Currently, Form Six students, who are still sharing facilities at SMK Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Hajah Normah Daro, face limitations in terms of classroom space and other infrastructure, as they have to share with other students.

“This has resulted in restrictions on the number of students who can continue their studies in Form 6.

“Therefore, I sincerely hope that the Federal Education Ministry will give priority to building a dedicated college or at least a special centre for Form Six in the Daro district.

“This would help provide proper educational facilities and attract more students to choose Form Six as their pre-university option before furthering their studies at the university level,” he said.

He said this when debating in support of the motion of appreciation to the Head of State, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar’s speech in the august house today.

Additionally, Safiee said Sarawak not only does not have National Anti Drug Agency (AADK) offices, the only available AADK offices has a total of five to six persons to implement their duties in large areas, especially those that require long-distance journey.

“In this regard, I respectfully request that the relevant federal ministry consider establishing an AADK office in every district in Sarawak, including increasing the number of staff, so that the functions and responsibilities of AADK can be further enhanced,” he added.
