KUALA LUMPUR: Ahead of tomorrow’s 69th National Day celebration, Dataran Putrajaya is fully prepared to stage a grand gathering of thousands of participants, a showcase of national assets, and vibrant performances designed to ignite the people’s patriotic spirit.
Carrying the theme “Malaysia MADANI: Kesejahteraan Dinikmati”, this year’s celebration features a colorful lineup that not only uplifts the love for the country but also highlights the values of struggle and identity in celebrating independence.
His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, and Her Majesty Raja Zarith Sofiah, Queen of Malaysia, are scheduled to grace the celebration, which will also be attended by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and members of the Cabinet.
The event, scheduled to begin at 8:00 am, involves 10,819 parade participants across 76 contingents, 22 marching bands, 11 float vehicles, 328 land, naval, and air assets, 112 working animals, and 22 electric vehicle (EV) assets.
The programme spans statehood, well-being, public order, and national security components, followed by an airshow and a special performance titled “Rentak MADANI, Paluan Tradisi”.
Opening the event, the “Gema Inovasi MADANI” performance – coordinated by the National Department for Culture and Arts under the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture – will feature a fusion of traditional heritage percussion and innovation that elevates the spirit of togetherness.
Utilising 150 musical instruments and 700 traditional and innovative kompang (frame drums), the opening performance showcases a diversity of percussion instruments representing Malaysia’s main ethnic groups as symbols of well-being, harmony, goodwill, and loyalty.
The performance also serves as a manifestation of the MADANI spirit in uplifting cultural heritage, innovation, unity, and national identity through creative approaches that connect traditional elements with modern renewal.
The statehood component features, among others, a large Jalur Gemilang-bearing contingent accompanied by the army, navy, and air force cadet officers from the National Resilience Leadership Academy, National Defence University of Malaysia (UPNM), alongside a National Service Training Programme (PLKN) contingent.
Also participating is the sports well-being component, featuring national athletes and medalists from the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, carrying the spirit of Malaysian excellence onto the national and international stage.
The public well-being and economy component brings together a coalition of service providers and private sector entities, including Munchy’s Malaysia, ZUS Coffee, Siti Khadijah Apparel Sdn Bhd, the Malaysian Security Industry Association, MR. D.I.Y Group (M) Berhad, Angkatan Koperasi Kebangsaan Malaysia Berhad, and Carsome Sdn Bhd.
For the public order component, participating agencies include the Malaysia Civil Defence Force, the Road Transport Department, and the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department, highlighting their roles in safeguarding the security and well-being of the people.
Also joining the parade is the Johor Military Force, the oldest military unit in Malaysia, which plays a role in defending the sovereignty and security of the Johor Royal Institution.
Meanwhile, floats for the Visit Malaysia Year 2026-2027 campaign will showcase state tourism icons, flora and fauna, traditional attire, and traditional musical instruments from Malaysia’s diverse communities.
The participation of airline strategic partners – Malaysia Airlines, AirAsia, Batik Air, and Air Borneo – will further enliven the procession, while national animation leader Les’ Copaque will feature popular characters Upin and Ipin as animation icons to enhance the celebration’s appeal among the younger generation and families.
The National Day parade is also accompanied by the energetic actions of a human graphics performance bringing together 1,500 students from 36 schools in Selangor, displaying moving formations synchronised to music with visual changes in every segment.
The climax of the event is graced by an air show featuring the Royal Malaysian Air Force fighter jets slicing through the skies above the nation’s administrative center, capping off a display of the nation’s defense capabilities and assets before thousands of spectators.
The National and Malaysia Day 2026 theme song titled “Aku Berjanji”, composed and performed by renowned singer Faizal Tahir, will inject spirit and appreciation for the meaning of love for the country as the celebration concludes at approximately 10:00 am.
Yesterday, Communications Minister and Chairman of the Main Committee for the National Day and Malaysia Day (HKHM) 2026 Celebrations, Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil, advised visitors attending Dataran Putrajaya to wear N95 face masks to protect themselves from the current haze, a step aligned with Ministry of Health advice, particularly for high-risk individuals.
The HKHM 2026 organisers have also taken the approach of providing N95 face masks to over 10,000 participants of the 2026 National Day to ensure their health remains in optimal condition.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Home Affairs via a Facebook infographic advised the public to plan their travel and utilise public transport due to the full closure of Putrajaya’s Core Island area, which begins on August 30 at 5:00 am until August 31 at 6:00 pm.
The road closures involve five main bridges – Seri Wawasan Bridge, Seri Saujana Bridge, Seri Gemilang Bridge, Putra Bridge, and Seri Ehsan Bridge – alongside several routes surrounding the central Putrajaya area. – BERNAMA
