KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Ahmad Zaini Kamaruzzaman has been appointed as the Acting President of the Malaysia-Indonesia Journalists Friendship Association (ISWAMI Malaysia), effective 1 August 2025.

His appointment follows the resignation of outgoing President, Ashwad Ismail.

The announcement was made in an official statement released by ISWAMI Malaysia today.

Ahmad Zaini, who currently serves as Deputy President, will assume leadership duties until the next ISWAMI General Assembly, expected to be held later this year.

The assembly will also elect new leadership for the 2025-2027 term.

Ashwad’s resignation, which takes effect on July 31, 2025, follows his new responsibilities as a founding board member of the Malaysian Media Council, effective July 15, 2025.

In his farewell message, he expressed deep gratitude and hope for the association’s future.

“This decision comes after careful consideration, taking into account my professional commitments and responsibilities as a Founding Board Member of the Malaysian Media Council.

“I believe it is time to make room for a new line of media leadership to carry forward ISWAMI’s vision with fresh dynamism,” Ashwad said.

Ashwad also extended his appreciation to the ISWAMI leadership team and members across both countries.

“I am truly honoured to have served alongside the leadership and members of ISWAMI during my term.

“The cooperation, support, and spirit of friendship shown in Malaysia and Indonesia will always be cherished.

“I pray that ISWAMI will continue to thrive in strengthening professional ties and harmonious relations between Malaysian and Indonesian journalists, guided by the spirit and principles of shared prosperity,” he said.

The proposal for Ahmad Zaini to serve as Acting President was put forward by ISWAMI Malaysia Executive Council Member, Datuk Linchong Angkui, and supported by Vice-President II, Kamarudin Mape, following ISWAMI’s Constitution, Clauses 8 (vi), (vii), and (viii), that states that the Deputy President is to assume the President’s role in the event of a vacancy.

ISWAMI expressed its respect for Ashwad’s decision and conveyed heartfelt appreciation for his contributions.

“We extend our highest gratitude to Ashwad and wish him continued success in his future endeavours,” the association said.
