KUCHING: Around 80 golfers took to the greens yesterday (Aug 8) for the Datuk Bandar Golf Cup 2026, one of the highlights of Kuching Festival 2026 held in conjunction with the 38th Kuching City Anniversary celebrations.
The tournament, organised by Kuching North City Commission (DBKU), also attracted some 160 invited guests and provided an opportunity for participants from various backgrounds to come together in a relaxed and friendly setting.
The event held at Sarawak Golf Club (KGS) was officiated by Kuching North City Mayor Datuk Hilmy Othman.
In a statement issued recently by DBKU stated the tournament served not only as a platform to promote golf but also as a means of strengthening ties and fostering closer cooperation between DBKU and various stakeholders.
“It brought together representatives from the corporate sector, government agencies, the community and golf fraternity, creating opportunities for networking and camaraderie beyond the sporting arena,”the statement added.
The organisation of the Datuk Bandar Golf Cup 2026 also reflected DBKU’s commitment to providing programmes and activities that bring the community together while promoting Kuching as an active, inclusive and vibrant city.
Among those present were Eastern Field Commander of the Malaysian Army Lieutenant General Datuk Mohd Sofi Md Lepi, Senior Private Secretary to the Premier, Datuk Khir Busrah, DBKU councillors and participating golfers.
The tournament formed part of the wider Kuching Festival 2026 celebrations, which feature a variety of programmes and activities for residents and visitors.
