KUCHING: Sarawak recorded no new positive Covid-19 cases yesterday for the seventh consecutive day so the total number of cases in the state remained at 552.

With this, Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas urged Sarawakians to continue cooperating to ensure that the Covid-19 chain of transmission could be broken and the curve could be flattened further.

He said that one new case had recovered and was discharged from Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) yesterday.

“Thus far, the total number of Covid-19 cases which has recovered and been discharged is 520 or 94.2 percent,” he said at yesterday’s daily Covid-19 press conference of Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC).

He said that 14 new persons under investigation (PUI) cases were reported yesterday and six cases are still awaiting laboratory results.

On the results of the active case detection (ACD) operation at Belawai, Tanjung Manis, he reported that all 339 samples which had been taken were negative for Covid-19.

“Until today (yesterday), a total of 45,710 home surveillance orders (quarantine orders) have been issued and 35,640 have completed their home quarantine (release order), while 10,070 home surveillances are still active,” he said.

As of yesterday, 15 cases are undergoing treatment at hospitals, with none in intensive care unit (ICU) and none requiring breathing assistance.

Uggah, who is also SDMC chairman, said that there were four arrests and eight compounds issued yesterday for attempting to cross district lines.

He said that yesterday, a total of 3,992 applications for inter-district movement were received at 28 police headquarters throughout Sarawak, bringing the cumulative total to 99,717 applications.

“Of this total, 91,090 have been approved and 8,627 have been rejected,” he said.

According to him, the surveillance team had monitored 1,805 locations, including supermarkets (185), restaurants (307), factories (22), banks (114), government offices (84), hawker stalls (ten), public markets (98), places of worship (94), recreational places (46), construction sites (24) and others (821).

He informed that as of yesterday, the Ministry of Local Government and Housing had received 23,175 business and industry notifications.

On persons under surveillance (PUS), Uggah said that 435 PUS had been checked into hotels yesterday to undergo quarantine, bringing the total number of PUS in 38 hotels statewide to 1,186 while 12,913 PUS had completed their quarantine period.
