KUCHING: The Dayak community has been called upon to adopt a progressive mindset by prioritising income generation and resource efficiency to build a more sustainable and productive economy.
Minister for Food Industry, Commodities and Regional Development, Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom stressed that this approach aligns with Sarawak’s Post-Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030, which prioritises sustainable growth and environmental stewardship.
He urged the community to leverage existing talents and pursue knowledge in fields offering viable economic returns.
“This is not only the time to showcase our capabilities but also to ensure that our efforts translate into tangible financial gains. Whatever we undertake must yield meaningful returns,” he said during the closing ceremony of the Gawai Dayak Bazaar 2025 at MJC Batu Kawa here, Sunday night (May 25).
Dr Rundi further advocated for a secular economy model, stressing the importance of zero-waste production to minimise resource depletion.
He noted the success of the Sarawak Land Consolidation and Rehabilitation Authority (SALCRA), which repurposes industrial waste into biomass for fertilizer, animal feed, and renewable energy.
“Such initiatives reflect Sarawak’s commitment to environmental sustainability under PCDS 2030. We must ensure every endeavour adds value and avoids squandering resources.”
