KUCHING: As the aroma of pansuh fills kitchens and the rhythmic beat of traditional drums echoes through longhouses, Dayak communities throughout Sarawak and beyond unite once again in celebration, not just for a bountiful harvest but for identity, belonging, and cultural resilience.

Gawai, which marks the end of the harvesting season and the start of a new one, is a deeply significant occasion for the Iban, Bidayuh, and Orang Ulu communities.

It is a time to return home, reconnect with family, honour ancestral traditions, and reflect on shared values of togetherness and thanksgiving.

In conjunction with the Gawai Dayak celebration, Dayak assemblymen and Members of Parliament (MP) across Sarawak have extended heartfelt greetings to their constituents and the broader Dayak community, calling for unity, cultural pride, and a spirit of gratitude.

DATUK WILSON UGAK KUMBONG, Hulu Rajang MP

I extend my warmest wishes for a joyous Gawai Dayak and Kaamatan Festival to all Malaysians, especially the Dayak community in Sarawak and the Kadazandusun and other ethnic groups in Sabah.

This is a time to gather with family, enjoy traditional delicacies, and appreciate the richness and uniqueness of our cultural heritage.

May this year’s celebration bring joy, gratitude, and a strong spirit of unity to us all.

Kotobian Tadau Tagazo Do Kaamatan & Gayu Guru Gerai Nyamai! (Wishing you a bountiful harvest, long life, good health, and prosperity!)

On this occasion, in conjunction with the Gawai Dayak celebration for the year 2025, I, YB Billy Sujang, state assemblyman for Opar, would like to wish a Happy Gawai Dayak to all Dayak people celebrating, wherever you may be.

May this year’s Gawai bring abundant blessings to all of us and to our beloved families.

Let us celebrate Gawai in a modest manner and spend it within our means.

ALLAN SIDEN GRAMONG, Machan assemblyman

I wish a Happy Gawai Dayak to the Dayak community, especially the people of Machan.

Gawai symbolises gratitude, unity, and our rich cultural heritage. It is a time to honour our ancestors, strengthen togetherness, and celebrate our diverse Sarawak identity.

I appreciate the community’s efforts in Machan towards development and education for a better future.

May this festival bring joy, blessings, and closer family ties. Celebrate safely and continue preserving our traditions.

ANYI JANA, Ngemah assemblyman

Gayu Guru Gerai Nyamai! I would like to wish a Happy Gawai Dayak to all the people of Sarawak, especially the Dayak community in the Ngemah state constituency and throughout our beloved state.

Gawai is a time for us to be grateful for our blessings and achievements, to strengthen bonds, and to celebrate our unique heritage and culture.

Happy Gawai Dayak! Gayu Guru, Gerai Nyamai, Lantang Senang Nguan Menua.

WILSON NYABONG IJANG, Pelagus assemblyman

Gawai Dayak is more than a celebration – it is the essence of our Dayak identity. Once a thanksgiving for the harvest, it has become a time to return home, reconnect, and honour our roots.

It is a celebration of togetherness, shared meals, joyful laughter, and the comfort of family and friends. Even if you can’t be home, know that you are still part of the spirit of Gawai.

For those travelling, please stay safe. Your safe arrival is the greatest gift to your loved ones.

As we celebrate, let us continue to cherish and preserve the culture, traditions, and values that make Gawai truly meaningful.

Selamat Hari Gawai Dayak. Gayu Guru, Gerai Nyamai, Lantang Senang, Chelap Lindap Nguan Menua. Oooohaaa!
