KUCHING: Starting today until March 31, the D’Drift 2023 team of DayakDaily will be on a mission to discover 12 historical forts across Sarawak.
The programme is part of Sarawak Tourism Board’s theme of the year that focuses on the state’s heritage.
Led by Christopher Bishop, the team of three journalists aims to uncover the stories behind these forts while also searching for hidden gems in the region such as local delicacies and other interesting sights.
D’Drift 2023 is DayakDaily’s fourth annual statewide trip, where the team will travel to various districts, sub-districts, towns, and settlements across Sarawak to write about their experiences.
Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah who officiated at the flag-off ceremony at DayakDaily’s office recalled the interesting experiences of the team during their previous trips to national parks.
“I remember right after I launched the previous trip, on the same day they wrote about some places they ate in while they were on the road, and it was published the same day, even before they had reached the national park.
“They wrote about their experiences along the way, which I find very fascinating. Even if the place or food are not really that interesting nor famous, their art of writing and the way they described their experiences has turned it the other way round,” he said.
He added that this is a great way to promote not only historical sites but also shops and restaurants along the journey.
Also present during the event was Sarawak Tourism Board Chairman Dennis Ngau, CEO Sharzede Salleh Askor, and Sarawak Forestry Corporation Head of Enforcement and Protection Madhan Kifli.
