KUCHING: Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) is committed to ensuring that every office under its jurisdiction is equipped with at least one Automated External Defibrillator (AED).

Mayor Datuk Hilmy Othman said the provision of such devices at main workplaces is crucial as an early measure to prevent sudden cardiac arrests.

“I see the importance of providing these devices in all our offices and DBKU facilities such as the Kuching Waterfront, since DBKU has offices there.

“If possible, we aim to install them in all libraries, community centres, and public spaces under DBKU’s maintenance.

“God willing, we will work towards securing funds so that we can realise the dream of having these devices available across DBKU areas in the future.”

Hilmy said this when speaking at the launch of DBKU’s Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Week 2025 at its Auditorium here today.

He added that DBKU has taken the initial step by installing an AED at the main lobby of the DBKU office.

This initiative, he said, is proof of efforts to strengthen emergency preparedness while also enhancing public safety standards.

On another note, he called on the staff to actively voice their opinions on strengthening healthy lifestyle practices at work to the management.

He believed that such efforts are a major catalyst for making DBKU stronger, and he welcomed the introduction of new ideas, especially in the use of technology among the workforce.

“I call on everyone to continue working together to create a systematic working ecosystem among our staff.

“With a balanced approach between innovation and social responsibility, we can build a brighter and more sustainable future.”
