KUCHING: Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) has been awarded the Asean Clean Tourist City Award under the Asean Tourism Standards for the 2026–2028 cycle.

The recognition was conferred after DBKU met all criteria set under the Asean Tourism Standards 2026–2028 and obtained official endorsement from the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia.

According to a statement, the award presentation ceremony was held on Jan 30 in Cebu, the Philippines, in conjunction with the Asean Tourism Forum 2026.

DBKU was represented by deputy director of Community Services Rudzaimeir Malek and head of Public Relations Division Norhayati Bidin, who received the award on behalf of the city council.

“This recognition represents DBKU’s first achievement at the Asean level and reflects its continued commitment to ensuring Kuching Utara remains a clean, safe, sustainable and liveable tourist city, in line with its aspirations for international-standard urban development,” the statement said.

At the national level, DBKU previously secured the Asean Clean Tourist City Standard for the 2022–2024 and 2024–2026 cycles.

DBKU said the continued recognition would support its efforts to strengthen urban governance and improve environmental quality across the city.

The city council also expressed appreciation to Kuching residents for their cooperation in maintaining cleanliness and sustainability.
