KUCHING: The completion of 579 Smart LED Street Lighting units in Kampung Nombor Satok marks a significant milestone in Kuching North City Hall’s (DBKU) ongoing efforts to improve the safety and wellbeing of local residents through smart city technology.

Satok assemblyman Datuk Ibrahim Baki officiated the launch at Padang SLPAS Kompleks Sukan Satok on Saturday (June 13).

“Phase 1 of the project was implemented in December 2020, with 210 smart LED lights installed along the main roads of Kampung Nombor Satok, covering Jalan Patingan, Jalan Muhibbah, Jalan Datuk Ajibah Abol, Jalan Haji Mataim, Jalan Muda Hashim, Jalan Bolhassan, Jalan Patinggi Ali, Jalan Haji Kassan and Jalan Tanjung,” he said when met by the press after the ceremony.

Following the success of the first phase, Phase 2 was carried out in 2024 and completed in full by August 2024, with an additional 369 smart lighting units installed along other lanes within the village, bringing the total to 579 units.

The system enables real-time monitoring, allowing inspection and maintenance work to be carried out more efficiently.

It is also equipped with remote control functions that allow brightness levels to be adjusted and lights to be switched on or off online from any location.

Beyond the two main phases, DBKU has further extended coverage through the RTP N.8 Satok 2025 Project, which involved the installation of 42 smart street light units along parts of Jalan Green and Jalan Nanas Barat.

The project, which began in October 2025, was fully completed in February 2026.

“This project is part of our effort to beautify and upgrade Kampung Nombor Satok, making it a more pleasant place for residents and visitors alike.

“More importantly, it directly contributes to the safety and wellbeing of the community here in Satok – when streets are well-lit, people feel more secure, and that matters,” he said.
