KUCHING: Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) once again demonstrated its commitment to fostering community togetherness by organising the Kejiranan Mesra (KJM) DBKU Bubur Pedas Distribution Programme at Tebingan Sungai BGS, Kampung Sourabaya Ulu, today(Mar 1).

The programme, which targeted the community under KJM N4 Pantai Damai, was officiated by the Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Project Coordinator for Regional Development Agencies, DBKU and Islamic Affairs), Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, together with the DBKU mayor, Datuk Hilmy Othman.

A total of 1,100 packs of ‘bubur lambuk’, 750 packs of ‘bubur pedas’ and 500 MD2 pineapples were distributed to residents of Kampung Boyan, Kampung Gersik, Kampung Sourabaya Ulu and Sourabaya Hilir for their iftar meal.

“The programme serves as a tradition that has been deeply rooted in the local community for 90 years, observed not only in this village but across various surrounding areas,” he said to the press after the programme.

He also highlighted the distribution of pineapples as a distinctive aspect of Sarawak’s unique Ramadan culture.

This annual programme organised by DBKU goes beyond mere food distribution, aiming to strengthen family ties, nurture a spirit of compassion and cultivate a sense of gratitude amongst the community.

Its organisation is also in line with the inclusivity concept that forms a cornerstone of Sarawak’s Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030, encompassing aspects of sustainability, wellbeing, respect and kindness in shaping a progressive society.
