KUCHING: Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) today launched Tamu Desa Sukma Ria and Food Society Sukma Ria to boost local entrepreneurship and create a modern community hub for residents.
The launch was officiated by Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department of Sarawak (Project Coordinator for Regional Development Agencies, DBKU and Islamic Affairs).
Also present were Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali, Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Law, MA63 and Federal-State Relations), along with DBKU Mayor Datuk Hilmy Othman.
The initiatives combine traditional open-air markets with modern food stalls, providing local hawkers, food operators, and young entrepreneurs a platform to showcase their products while fostering a lively and sustainable local economy.
Hilmy said the launch reflects DBKU’s commitment to staying close to the people, strengthening a sense of belonging, and fostering unity within Kuching North.
He added that the revitalised hub aligns with the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030, ensuring inclusive economic growth, social wellbeing, and environmental sustainability.
“The modernised Tamu Desa and Food Society Sukma Ria not only develops the city’s physical landscape but also instils social responsibility, integrity, and entrepreneurial spirit among the community. I am confident these platforms will empower local hawkers and small entrepreneurs,” he said.
The launch also featured cooking demonstrations, cultural performances, local product exhibitions, and community engagement activities involving residents of Desa Sukma and Petra Jaya.
