KUCHING: The Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) has inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Malaysian Red Crescent Society (MRCS) Kuching Branch to strengthen efforts in building a healthier, safer, and more resilient community.
Mayor Datuk Hilmy Othman said through the collaboration, DBKU has taken a proactive step by installing an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) at the main lobby of the DBKU office.
“This initiative aims to enhance our preparedness for emergency situations, while also improving public safety, particularly for visitors and DBKU staff.”
Hilmy said this during the launch of DBKU’s Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Week 2025 at its Auditorium here today.
The MoU signing ceremony saw DBKU represented by its director, Ramzi Abdullah, while MRC Kuching Branch was represented by its deputy chairman, Dr Chou Chii Ming.
Hilmy further said MRC will conduct training sessions for all staff of DBKU, covering cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and the use of the AED device.
“This is to ensure that every staff is equipped with basic knowledge and skills to manage medical emergencies, thereby positioning DBKU as an agency that is alert and prepared in all aspects of safety management.”
On matters related to the OSH Week, Hilmy said digital technology and artificial intelligence (AI) are no longer confined to the field of information technology but have permeated nearly every sector including manufacturing, construction, services, education, and urban administration.
“However, despite this digital surge, we must not overlook an equally important aspect – the safety and health of our workers.
“Therefore, the integration of technology must go hand in hand with the fostering of a sustainable OSH culture.”
He reminded that only a balanced approach between innovation and social responsibility can establish a brighter and more sustainable future.
