KUCHING: Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) has lodged a police report over a viral video showing an individual allegedly jumping off the Darul Hana Bridge.
The local authority said the report was lodged at 2.11 pm on Friday (Jul 24) to enable the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) to investigate the incident.
“The approximately 10-second video, which has been circulating on social media, showed the individual performing a dangerous stunt that endangered his own life and could encourage similar irresponsible behaviour.
“DBKU will not compromise on any act that threatens public safety, disrupts public order or tarnishes the image of Darul Hana Bridge, one of Kuching’s iconic landmarks,” it said in a Facebook post.
The city commission added that such an act could constitute an offence under Section 268 of the Penal Code for public nuisance and, upon conviction, offenders could face penalties under the law.
It also urged anyone with information on the incident or the identity of the individual involved to assist the investigation by contacting the police or DBKU.
“We appreciate the public’s cooperation in helping to keep our public spaces safe and preventing similar incidents from recurring,” it added.
