KUCHING: Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) has secured a five-star rating under the Local Government Department’s (JKT) Technical Audit Star Rating Programme (PBAT) 2026, recognising its continued efforts in strengthening environmental health services.
The recognition was presented during the 2026 World Environmental Health Day Celebration organised by the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) at Bertam Resort, Seberang Perai, Pulau Pinang, on Saturday.
DBKU Mayor Datuk Hilmy Othman received the recognition on behalf of DBKU.
The five-star achievement reflects DBKU’s commitment to delivering quality, systematic and effective environmental health services for the well-being of the community.
Its efforts cover areas including urban cleanliness, food safety, pollution control, solid waste management and other environmental issues affecting public health.
DBKU said its role had extended beyond city management, with the local authority also playing a frontline role in safeguarding public well-being and ensuring Kuching North remained clean, safe, healthy and comfortable for its residents.
The achievement was attributed to the commitment, cooperation and teamwork of DBKU personnel, as well as the support and participation of residents in maintaining the city’s high standards.
DBKU said the recognition would serve as a catalyst to further strengthen its culture of excellence and drive continuous improvements in municipal service delivery.
During the visit, Hilmy and DBKU deputy directors also attended the 2026 Local Authorities Convention in Seberang Perai.
Themed “MADANI Synergy, Sustainable Local Authorities, Harmonious Environment”, the convention is a continuation of the 2024 Local Authorities Empowerment Convention.
