KUCHING: The Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) will lodge a police report following a viral TikTok video showing three individuals climbing a road sign structure and a lamp post, in an act deemed both unsafe and inappropriate.
DBKU said the incident is a matter of concern, as it endangers the individuals involved, risks damage to public property, and tarnishes the city’s reputation.
The city council reminded the public that affixing stickers, posters, or other materials to road signs without permission is an offense under By-law 22(1)(b) of the Local Authorities (Cleanliness) By-laws, 1999.
Offenders can be prosecuted under By-law 22(2) and, if convicted, may face a fine of RM1,500 and an additional RM3,000 for subsequent offenses, or imprisonment of up to nine months per offense.
“Such behavior is considered a serious violation of societal manners and ethics and will not be compromised by DBKU,” the council said in a Facebook post statement on Wednesday.
DBKU advised the public to always maintain proper conduct and respect public facilities for the collective well-being.
“The cooperation of all parties is highly expected to ensure that Kuching city remains prosperous, clean, safe, and livable,” said DBKU.
