KUCHING: Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) made an impressive debut by winning the prestigious Rosa Sinensis Award 2025 at the National Landscape Competition held in Pasir Gudang, Johor today.
DBKU submitted two entries under the public park category for the national-level competition organised by the National Landscape Department in conjunction with National Landscape Day 2025, namely Taman Perpaduan in Petra Jaya and Sarawak Botanical Garden in Kuching.
According to DBKU statement today, both parks showcased landscape designs that are functional, eco-friendly, and reflect local identity.
However, it was the Sarawak Botanical Garden that clinched the Rosa Sinensis Award 2025.
“This achievement not only demonstrates DBKU’s commitment to high-quality landscape development but also serves as a catalyst to further efforts towards creating a green, sustainable, and harmonious city, in line with the Malaysia MADANI aspirations and the National Landscape Policy 2020 to 2030,” it said.
Out of 25 submissions, only five recipients were honoured with this prestigious recognition, namely Kuching North City Hall (DBKU), Pasir Gudang City Council, Maran District Council, 101 Properties Sdn Bhd, and Setia Frontainer Sdn Bhd.
The award was presented by Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Housing and Local Government, Zulkeflee Sulaiman.
Receiving the award on behalf of DBKU was DBKU director Ramzi Abdillah.
He was accompanied by Acting Deputy Director of the Department of Development and Landscape Services Maggie Tomeng; Head of the Landscape Division Mohamad Benjamin Julaihi Khan; and Assistant Landscape Architect at DBKU Evie Izzati Bohari.
For the record, the Rosa Sinensis Award is a prestigious accolade organised by the National Landscape Department (JLN) to recognise outstanding achievements and contributions in landscape development, management, and maintenance in Malaysia by organisations, agencies, communities, and individuals who excel in the field.
