KUCHING: Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP) Sarawak has taken the initiative to republish books originally issued by the Borneo Literature Bureau by translating them into Malay.
DBP Sarawak’s Director, Dr Azizul Ismail, said that the effort forms part of a broader initiative to expand publications featuring Sarawak’s ethnic literature while preserving the state’s rich literary heritage.
“We also aim to preserve and safeguard the heritage of Sarawak’s folk literature through our recent workshop. Among the books currently being undertaken are ‘Keling Nyumpit’, ‘Dilah Tanah’, ‘Pong Kapong’, ‘Adi Pau’ and ‘Jengkuan Taju Remaung’.
“In addition, DBP is also involved in the Iban Language Textbook Workshop organised by the DBP Sarawak,” he said in a statement posted at its official Facebook page.
He also hoped that the relevant authorities will support DBP Sarawak’s efforts in preserving local works in Sarawak and are willing to hold discussions through ethnic associations or organisations to ensure that this heritage continues to be safeguarded.
DBP Sarawak invites the heirs of the owners of the above-mentioned books to contact them via email at stephanie@dbp.gov.my or jhayssy@dbp.gov.my.
