KUCHING: Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP) Sarawak is ready to organise free workshops and courses for media practitioners in the state, aiming to enhance the quality of language used across all platforms.
DBP Sarawak director Dr Azizul Ismail said that despite the widespread use of Malay in social media, digital platforms, and mainstream newspapers, there is still room for improvement in language proficiency among journalists.
“No matter who we are, as long as we are human, we must continually seek to improve our knowledge.
“We cannot remain complacent with our current level of proficiency,” he said in an interview with Sarawak Tribune yesterday.
Dr Azizul emphasised that DBP Sarawak is prepared to provide various forms of guidance and training specifically for journalists to empower the use of the Malay language.
The agency also offers facilities such as discussion rooms and experienced trainers to conduct sessions on language etiquette, appropriate salutations, and grammar correction.
“DBP is always open to collaborating with media agencies and is ready to organise specialised courses for journalists.
“We are here to help if there is a need. There will be no fees… God willing, we are ready to assist,” he said.
In addition to workshops, Dr Azizul revealed that DBP Sarawak plans to organise a Journalist Appreciation Night, similar to events previously held in Kuala Lumpur and Perak.
“Sarawak will follow suit,” he said.
