KUCHING: Politicians on both sides of Sarawak’s political divide have been urged to put aside their differences when it comes to matters involving the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said the interests of Sarawak’s citizens must be taken into account first.

“To defend our rights as stipulated in MA63 can only be successful through one spirit,” Awang Tengah, who is also Industrial and Entrepreneur Development Minister, told reporters at the 18th Sarawak Legislative Assembly sitting here yesterday.

His views were shared by Rural Electricity Assistant Minister Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, who stressed, “The Sarawak government is striving hard to regain our eroded rights.”

He said this was one of the state government’s missions under Gabungan Parti Sarawak.

“As what Yang di Pertua Negeri Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud reminded, regardless of our political differences, we must stand together as one when it comes to regaining our rights.”
