KUCHING: Sarawak embraced the challenge of decarbonisation as an opportunity to advance further towards a green, digital and innovation-driven economy.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the state aimed to position itself at the forefront of sustainability by linking its Post-Covid Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030) with global decarbonisation efforts.

He stressed that Sarawak’s focus was not only on local transformation but also on contributing to regional and international clean energy solutions.

“Around the world, nations are seeking ways to decarbonise their economies. Transportation, as one of the largest contributors to greenhouse gas emissions, stands at the forefront of this transformation.

“Sarawak, as a responsible state and member of the global community, fully recognises this challenge.

“But more importantly, we see it as an opportunity to leap forward into a green, digital, and innovation-driven economy,” he said.

He said this in a speech delivered by Education, Innovation and Talent Development Minister Datuk Seri Roland Sagah at the opening of the Green Mobility Innovation Summit here Monday (Sept 8).

Expounding on the summit’s theme “Driving the Future: Talent, Innovation and Sustainability in Green Mobility”, Abang Johari said it could not be more timely or relevant.

He said the summit acted as a catalyst for collaboration, innovation and investment, stressing that no country or state could achieve green mobility in isolation.

He expressed appreciation for the participation of more than 750 delegates and over 30 international speakers, describing their collective expertise as invaluable in advancing sustainable mobility.

“Sarawak is ready to be part of that global dialogue. We welcome collaboration in research and development, joint ventures in clean technology, capacity building and knowledge exchange.

“Let this summit be the starting point for new ideas, pilot programmes and even regional frameworks that advance sustainable mobility,” he said.

Meanwhile, Sagah, who represented the Premier, witnessed the exchange of several agreements between Sarawak Skills and international as well as local partners to strengthen technical and vocational training.
