The Sarawak Artificial Intelligence Centre’s (SAIC) approach of adopting a federated architecture enables real-time data sharing without centralising data into a single database.

Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development Datuk Seri Roland Sagah Wee Inn said the approach also enables real-time data interoperability.

“SAIC adopts a federated architecture instead of a centralised data collection system. The implementation of this architecture enables real-time data interoperability, which supports faster and more informed decision-making.

“It also adopts standard implementation templates to accelerate the development and deployment of AI solutions in the field by reusing proven architectural patterns instead of developing systems from scratch,” he said in reply to Ba Kelalan assemblyman Baru Bian during Q&A session today.

Sagah added that for projects with similar use cases, SAIC applies the same design approach to ensure data schemes are standardised across agencies, while also collaborating with local developers and universities to speed up implementation.

“SAIC maintains the core principle that all data and computing remain sovereign within Sarawak, while data ownership continues to reside with the respective agencies, with SAIC acting as the coordinator,” he said.

Responding to another supplementary question on the federated architecture and ongoing projects, Sagah said SAIC is currently spearheading five major initiatives that form the foundation of the state’s AI ecosystem development.

These include the Sarawak AI Master Plan 2026–2030, the AI Grid initiative, the integrated AI platform DeepSAR, a joint research scholarship programme with Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC), and the establishment of a Quantum AI Research Group.

Elaborating further on the federated architecture, he explained that each agency retains ownership and control of its respective data while enabling secure and seamless data sharing through a common government framework.
