BAU: Hari Raya Aidilfitri in Kampung Pangkalan Loji Air Bau this year will be more festive with villagers working together to decorate the area with approximately 2,200 feet of festive lights.

The initiative comes from the residents themselves after raising almost RM3,000 to purchase equipment and supplies to install decorative lights around the village after finding that the atmosphere in the village had been dreary for a long time.

Apart from installing raya lights, residents also held gotong-royong activities to clean up the village area to ensure a more cheerful and comfortable environment ahead of the Aidilfitri celebration.

The involvement of the youth also injected new enthusiasm into the local community to beautify the village, which was previously without any decorations.

According to project leader Faizal Rambli, the idea to brighten up the village originally came about through a discussion on WhatsApp.

He said that each household was invited to join the WhatsApp group to facilitate communication between residents.

“At first we just asked each other how we were doing and exchanged views on the situation in the village. Then the suggestion came up to install decorative lights to brighten the atmosphere ahead of Hari Raya and the idea was well received by everyone,” he said.

He said that apart from brightening up the village atmosphere, the organisation of gotong-royong also aims to provide an opportunity for young people to experience the real experience of living in a community and strengthen relationships among residents.
