KUCHING: Defeat may have been the outcome, but head coach Joseph Kalang Tie sees the bigger picture in Kuching City FC’s academy youth development journey.

Following the academy’s 2-0 loss to Sabah FC III at Stadium Likas in Kota Kinabalu, Joseph stressed that continuous improvement and a more systematic football development structure are crucial for the future.

“Not the result we wanted, but there is still a lot of room for improvement among our young players. A lot of work needs to be done on my side as well,” he told Sarawak Tribune when contacted recently.

Despite the defeat, the former national midfielder remained optimistic about the progress shown by the squad, highlighting the value of exposure and experience gained through competitive matches.

“Every day, this belia (youth) team continues to gain experience and knowledge. We will stay positive and keep working hard together,” he added.

Joseph also expressed hope that football development structures in the country can become more organised and systematic in the years ahead to better nurture young talent.

The defeat against Sabah FC III marked another learning curve for Kuching City Academy’s young side as they continue their campaign against some of the country’s top youth teams.

Kuching City Academy will next travel to face Terengganu FC III on June 6 in another away fixture.
