
“When checks are done by the council, some septic tanks have been found cracked and a breeding place for mosquitoes,” said Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Datuk James Chan (pic).
He also explained that MBKS is not the authority that declared certain areas in the city a dengue hotspot.
“It is the health department, after receiving the number of patients from the same residential area.
“It’s very important for the council here to verify any statements and it’s also our responsibility to make the city safe for residents,” he told reporters after a council meeting here yesterday.
He added that the health department would also be the one to declare the areas in the city that are free from dengue.
“All members of the council have been working hard to ensure that the city is clean because that is important to us.”
Chan also disclosed that the smoking ban would be enforced starting March 1, with the first six months more of a grace period to educate and warn smokers.
