NEW DELHI, India: India’s Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday described the handover of three Malaysian crime suspects to the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) as “smooth” and in line with strong bilateral cooperation in law enforcement.

The three, linked to the ‘Captain Praba’ organised crime gang, were deported to Malaysia on Tuesday and appeared in a Malaysian court on Wednesday.

The CBI, acting as the National Central Bureau (NCB) for Interpol in India, coordinated with its Kuala Lumpur counterpart to facilitate the process, acting upon Malaysia’s request for help in apprehending the trio.

The suspects have been identified as Sridharan Subramaniam, Pratifkumar Selvaraj and Navindren Raj Cumarason.

The Malaysian team “escorted the subjects back to Malaysia in a smooth and coordinated manner”, the Indian probe agency said in a statement.

“This successful operation reflects the strong bilateral cooperation between India and Malaysia in the field of law enforcement and underscores the effectiveness of Interpol channels in addressing transnational crime,” the CBI said.

The three fugitives were arrested on Sunday at Mumbai airport where they fought with security staff upon their arrival from Manchester after being denied entry into Britain. – By Shakir Husain/BERNAMA
