KUCHING: By collaborating with the State Library, it would help shift the Land and Survey Department towards a more effective ecosystem.
State Land and Survey director Abdullah Julaihi said the initiative would enable researchers, corporations and agencies to obtain accurate information and an overview on the history of Sarawak’s geographical boundaries.
“Through this collaboration, we will be able to update our data that needs to be stored in our system.
“We are updating our map which we have shared with the library — the 1937 original map. This will not only become our archive, but it will also provide invaluable insights and knowledge on the changes that happened,” he said.
He said this while speaking to the media at a press conference at the State Library in Petra Jaya on Monday (Dec 14).
He also emphasised that there is a need to promote land and surveying field courses in tertiary education.
“Actually, we are working with Kuching Polytechnic because not many people are aware of this field of study.
“Therefore, we need to educate the public on this,” he said.
