Deputy minister hands out special grants to five bodies

SARIKEI: Five associations and non-governmental organisations (NGOs)  along with the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK), received grants for special projects today in a ceremony at the Sarikei Parliamentary Service Centre.

The grants were presented by Gung Chiu Kion on behalf of Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii, who is also the Sarikei MP and Repok assemblyman.

“NGOs and associations play an important role in various fields such as social, health, and education, in addition to helping disadvantaged groups such as the poor, the elderly, persons with disabilities (PWDs), and those in need of assistance.

“I hope the contributions given can be utilised to the fullest,” he said, urging all community organisations to be more active in addressing various social, economic, and welfare issues in their respective areas.

His speech was read out by Gung during the presentation of the special grants.

He said that under the wise leadership of the Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, Sarawak is renowned for its harmony and friendliness that exist among its diverse races, cultures, and religions, which have made it a unique feature of Sarawak.

The associations and NGOs that received allocations at the event were JKKK Sg Meradong, Jalan Bakong Meradong, Meradong Police Family Association (PERKEP), Meradong District Petanque Sports Association, Hock Teck Cemetery Management Association, Bintangor, and Methodist Iban Church, Bintangor Market.
