MIRI: Deputy Minister of Women, Childhood and Community Development, Datuk Rosey Yunus, led a humanitarian effort under the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme in collaboration with the Sarawak Public Works Department (PWD) and TV Sarawak (TVS) to support flood victims taking temporary shelter at SMK Suai’s flood relief centre (PPS).

The aid initiative took place on Saturday as the PPS at SMK Suai continued to accommodate 116 displaced residents affected by recent floods.

In her speech, Rosey reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring the well-being of the evacuees, particularly young children.

“The PPS at SMK Suai will remain open as long as there are flood victims in need of shelter. The safety and welfare of the community, especially children, remain our top priority,” she stated.

She also expressed gratitude to non-governmental organisations (NGOs) for their contributions.

“We appreciate the efforts of NGOs who have provided food supplies to assist those affected by the floods,” she said.

Meanwhile, Sarawak PWD director, Dr Cassidy Morris, addressed concerns regarding the impact of the disaster on infrastructure, particularly landslides and road collapses in affected areas.

“PWD is closely monitoring the situation in affected areas. We will take immediate action to create a detour to ensure public safety,” he assured.

Authorities and relief organisations continue to work together to support flood victims, while recovery efforts remain ongoing.
