SWITZERLAND: Sarawak reaffirmed its commitment to global economic engagement at the World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting 2026 in Davos on Tuesday (Jan 20).
The state’s participation was marked by the involvement of Deputy Sarawak Secretary (Economic Planning and Development) Datuk Sri Dr Muhammad Abdullah Zaidel as a panellist in the session titled ‘Industrial Clusters as Engines of Transformation’ held at DP World House.
The session gathered global policymakers and industry leaders to examine the role of industrial clusters in strengthening economic resilience, supporting the energy transition and developing future-ready industrial ecosystems amid changing global supply chains.
During the discussion, Dr Muhammad Abdullah shared Sarawak’s experience in developing the Bintulu Industrial Cluster, highlighting an integrated approach that aligns infrastructure development, energy supply, logistics and industrial planning under the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.
He also outlined the state’s initiatives to drive low-carbon industrial growth, including the Sarawak Energy Transition Policy, the Sarawak Hydrogen Economy Roadmap and the Sarawak Sustainability Blueprint 2030, which together form the foundation of Sarawak’s long-term economic and sustainability agenda.
In addition, he emphasised the importance of upholding strong governance practices, integrity and transparency as key elements in ensuring sustainable and inclusive development.
The session further reinforced Sarawak’s standing as a forward-looking and dependable partner in the global shift towards resilient, low-carbon and inclusive industrial ecosystems, while opening opportunities for deeper international collaboration under the World Economic Forum’s industrial transformation initiatives.
