BINTULU: Bintulu MP Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing said he will continue to monitor the flood situation in his constituency despite not being present all the time due to other commitments.
Tiong further said he is open and welcomed any complaints and feedback so that any deficiencies and weakness can be addressed immediately.
“Since the beginning of the Chinese New Year celebrations, the Progressive Democratic Party (PDP), in collaboration with NGOs, the community, and volunteer teams, has mobilised over 250 people to assist in reconstruction, cleanup, and flood relief efforts.
“Additionally, if any affected households require cleaning assistance, they can directly contact my special officer Steven Kong Kai Seng, at 012-8049663,” he said in his Facebook post.
With the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s deep concern for the people in Bintulu who have been affected by the severe flood and suffered significant losses, Tiong said the federal government is actively seeking additonal ways to provide assistance to the flood victims.
“This includes involving government-linked companies (GLCs), such as Petronas, to contribute to relief efforts, ensuring that those affected can recover and return to normal life as quickly as possible,” he added.
Tiong said the federal government is awaiting more detailed statistics on the flood, including the affected areas, the number of victims, and the extent of the losses.
“This data will enable the government to provide more targeted assistance.
“Therefore, I urge all flood victims to register with the relevant authorities as soon as possible to expedite the compilation of these statistics,” he added
Tiong promised he will continue to fulfill his duties and responsibilities by closely coordinating with the federal government to ensure that the cabinet fully understands the true extent of the disaster.
“I hope this will lead to an expansion of aid coverage so that more victims can receive government assistance.
“Additionally, I will gather leaders and business figures within my network to contribute to relief efforts, whether through financial support or manpower, so that we can overcome this crisis together,” he said.
Tiong said the Chinese New Year celebrations were disrupted by this devastating flood.
“In fact, the PDP had to cancel the 2025 Chinese New Year open house and home visits, focusing all available resources on post-flood reconstruction and relief efforts to help victims recover as quickly as possible.
“However, I believe that, with the collective strength of our community, Bintulu will rise again from this challenge, becoming stronger and enjoying prosperous lives as before,” he said.
