KUCHING: Sarawak’s main development goal is to ensure Sarawakians, including those in rural areas, benefit from progress.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said Sarawak has made remarkable strides in inclusive development which includes achieving 85.4 per cent treated water coverage and 99.4 per cent electricity supply across the state.

“Furthermore, major infrastructure projects such as the Pan-Borneo highway, Second Trunk Road, Coastal Road, Northern Coastal Highway and Sabah-Sarawak Link Road which are already ongoing will greatly improve connectivity, driving economic growth and enhancing quality of life,” he said.

His text of speech was read by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan at the Gala Dinner in conjunction with the 33rd Asean Socio-Cultural Community (ASCC) Council Meeting held at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS) Complex on Thursday (Apr 24) evening.

At the same time, Abang Johari said the ASCC is one of the three pillars of the Asean community which focuses on building a people-oriented, inclusive, sustainable and resilient Asean.

He said Sarawak strengthens this vision through its Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030 which is built upon the pillars of economic prosperity, social inclusivity, and environmental sustainability.

“By aligning PCDS 2030 with Asean Community Vision 2045, Sarawak is commited to fostering balanced economic growth, environmental stewardship and social resilience – setting a transformative path for shared regional progress.

“I hope that the 33rd ASCC Council Meeting will be a platform for forming new connections and partnerships that bring Sarawak and Asean together, paving the way for inclusive and lasting economic growth,” he said.
