LIMBANG: The economic prospects of the district have received a significant boost with the implementation of several high-impact development projects.

Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development Deputy Minister Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail said these projects were announced by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and are currently underway.

Among them are the Sarawak-Sabah Link Road (SSLR), Northern Coastal Highway, Trans Borneo Highway and the ongoing Limbang bridge project.

“When all of these are completed by 2030, the Limbang district will be transformed and further stimulate the economy in this area,” he said when officiating at the launch of the Limbang Ramadan bazaar recently.

At the same time, the Bukit Kota assemblyman said the federal government is currently negotiating with Brunei to open another Customs, Immigration, and Quarantine (CIQ) checkpoint in Pendam-Lumapas.

“If the CIQ is opened, the travel distance from Limbang town to Brunei will only be 30 minutes, namely 15 minutes from Limbang town to Pendam CIQ and 15 minutes from Lumapas CIQ to Brunei,” he added.
