SIBU: The number of patients requiring dialysis treatment at the Sibu Kidney Foundation (SKF) has increased significantly from 69 in 2022 to 113 this year.

SKF chairman Temenggong Datuk Vincent Lau Lee Ming said the increase reflects that kidney disease is still a serious health challenge among the community.

“At the same time, it also highlights the importance of SKF’s role in ensuring that patients receive appropriate treatment and support,” he said in his speech through his son, Councillor Kelvin Lau Kor Jie on his behalf at the SKF Family Day 2025 dinner reception at a hotel here last night (Sept 14).

Lau said that SKF, which was established in 1993, has three main missions, namely to raise public awareness about kidney disease and prevention, provide affordable subsidised dialysis treatment, and offer quality patient development.

“It is our responsibility to continue to improve services, upgrade equipment and expand capacity so that every patient receives the highest quality care,” he stressed.

According to him, SKF will continue to strengthen facilities, adopt new technology and expand its reach so that every patient has access to the care they need.

The event was also attended by patients with their family members, staff, management, health professionals and supporters of the foundation.
