KUCHING: Mastercard and AEON Credit Service (M) Berhad have launched a mobile-optimised digital blind-box campaign, “Spend. Tap. Win!”, offering prizes worth up to RM168,000 and tied to foreign-currency card spending.

Running until March 31, 2026, the campaign is delivered via Mastercard Gamer Exchange (MGE), which the companies described as Southeast Asia’s first mobile-first blind-box experience in payments.

Under the campaign, AEON Mastercard cardholders receive one blind box for every RM150 spent in a single foreign-currency transaction, whether online or overseas. For every additional RM150 in qualifying spend, cardholders earn two more blind boxes, capped at a maximum of six during the campaign period.

Each blind box contains lifestyle vouchers valued between RM50 and RM100 from participating merchants, with a grand prize of RM2,000 worth of Trip.com vouchers.

According to a joint statement, the entire process — from spend qualification to prize redemption — is fully digitalised. Prizes are activated instantly upon opening the blind box, with the experience optimised for mobile and on-the-go access.

The companies added that this marks the first time MGE has deployed a virtual blind-box mechanic for a cardholder engagement campaign in the Asia Pacific region.

Malaysia and Brunei Country Manager Beena Pothen said the collaboration reflects Mastercard’s understanding of changing consumer expectations.

“Malaysian consumers today expect more than traditional rewards; they seek experiences that are instant, digital and aligned with their personal interests,” she said.

AEON Credit Head of Payment Business Group Janice Ong said the initiative underscores the company’s focus on enhancing cardholder value and loyalty.

“At AEON Credit, we’re constantly exploring new ways to add value for our cardholders and reward their loyalty,” she said.

Meanwhile, Mastercard Vice President for Products and Solutions in Asia Pacific, Europe, Middle East and Africa, Ajeet Chauhan, said the launch represents AEON Credit’s first gamification initiative in collaboration with MGE.

“With this collaboration, we aim to deliver meaningful rewards and seamless experiences through innovative engagement mechanics,” he said.
