KUCHING: The UNIMAS Digital Technology Nexus (DigitalNEXUS) 2025 conference plays a vital role in assessing progress, identifying areas that need improvement, and reigniting efforts to advance Sarawak’s digital transformation agenda.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the conference goes beyond mere discussions, serving as a collaborative hub for idea generation, knowledge exchange and the building of strategic partnerships.

“The insights and experiences shared here will undoubtedly contribute to accelerating our digital transformation journey.

“We must collectively explore how emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Big Data Analytics, Internet of Things (IoT), and blockchain can be leveraged to revolutionise our industries, improve public service delivery, and elevate the quality of life of Sarawakians,” he said.

He said this in his text of speech read by Minister for Education, Innovation, and Talent Development Datuk Seri Roland Sagah Wee Inn during the closing of UNIMAS Digital Technology Nexus 2025 at Hilton hotel here on Wednesday.

Abang Johari also said that the state digital transformation journey underlines the importance of digital fluency in this rapidly evolving global landscape.

“Digital fluency is the key to unlocking new economic opportunities, enhancing public service delivery, empowering our communities, and preserving our unique cultural heritage for future generations.

“Sarawak is committed to expanding our digital infrastructure, fostering a digitally-savvy workforce, and encouraging innovation across all sectors.

“As such, DigitalNEXUS serves as a vital platform to assess our progress, identify areas for improvement, and, most importantly, reignite our collective passion for this transformative agenda,” he said.

He added that the insights gained, the connections forged, and the inspiration drawn from these past few days during DigitalNEXUS must now be translated into tangible action.

Abang Johari also emphasised the need for a collective push from all stakeholders — including the government, businesses, academia, and communities — to drive the state’s digital evolution.

“Let us build a culture where we collaborate freely, share ideas, and form strong partnerships. We must embrace innovation, be willing to experiment, learn from our missteps, and continue pushing boundaries to realise our vision for a digital economy,” he said.

He highlighted the encouraging participation of students, from primary to tertiary levels, as a promising sign that the younger generation is ready to take on the digital revolution.

“We must equip our youth with the necessary skills and opportunities not just to adapt to the digital era, but to lead it. Investing in digital literacy and STEM education remains a top priority for our government,” said Abang Johari.

The programme, held from July 1 to 2, also received support from Business Events Sarawak (BESarawak) and key strategic partners including the Department of Digital Nation, Sarawak Multimedia Authority, Google for Education, Sarawak Information Systems Sdn. Bhd. (SAINS), among others.
