KUCHING: Over 1,000 people came together at the Kuching South City Council (MBKS) compound last weekend for the DINO Treasure Hunt Charity Run 3.0.

It was a fun-filled event that combined fitness, family bonding and a spirit of giving.

Participants of all ages, some dressed as dinosaurs, took part in the 3km and 5km runs, which featured exciting side activities such as the Dinosaur Eggs Treasure Hunt and Best Dinosaur Costume Awards.

MBKS mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng, who flagged of the run, said that the event not only combines health and charity, but also promotes parent-child relationships and social tolerance, making it a meaningful community event in the city.

“A city must not only have loving people, but also healthy citizens. More importantly, it must foster mutual understanding and tolerance among all races within society,” he said.

Wee also praised the organisers — the Kuching Love Book Association — and their sponsors for their teamwork and dedication.

“Every success isn’t a one-sided effort, but rather the result of everyone’s collaborative efforts. This embodies the spirit of community unity and mutual support,” he said.

Meanwhile, Kuching Love Book Association chairperson May Loo said the charity run marked the association’s third large-scale event, held in conjunction with its seventh anniversary.

“This year, we had 1,100 participants, including 64 children under the age of 10. We hope this event will allow families to spend a meaningful morning together and strengthen parent-child relationships,” she said.

She added that the event also raised RM3,000 in donations to the Sarawak Deaf Community Services Association.

In one touching moment, an autistic child, Damian Clark, donated his hand-drawn dinosaur painting.

May said the association managed to sell the painting, thus raising a fund of RM10,000.

“This painting is not only a symbol of love, but also allows us to experience the power of social tolerance and kindness,” she said.

Meanwhile, adding to the fun, the organisers also prepared 40 lucky draw prizes for participants.

The next charity run, Kuching Love Book Association Charity Run 4.0 will be held in October next year, with the theme of “Run to PROTECT Endangered Species,” continuing the spirit of public welfare and environmental protection.
