SARATOK: Discussions are underway to secure a site for the construction of the new SK Abang Abdul Rahman.

Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation, and Talent Development, Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee, said that a proposed site has been identified about two kilometres from the current SK Abang Abdul Rahman, or next to Victoria Inn.

“We are now discussing acquiring the land as the construction site for the new SK Abang Abdul Rahman.

“The land is government-owned, and I believe there should be no issue. Once approval is obtained, we will propose the project to the Ministry of Education (MOE) for the construction of the new school,” he told reporters yesterday.

The Nangka assemblyman, who previously represented Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, officiated at the launching ceremony of the 100th Anniversary Celebration of SK Abang Abdul Rahman [1924-2024] at the Sri Krian Community Hall, today.

Dr Annuar clarified that the proposed school is not SK Abang Abdul Rahman II but a replacement for the existing school, which has become overcrowded.

“The current school will be relocated if we are able to proceed with the move,” he explained.

Asked about funding for the project, Dr Annuar said that no allocation has been made yet, as the land issue must first be resolved.

SK Abang Abdul Rahman, now 100 years old, is situated on less than two acres of land, leaving no room for expansion.

“Although this effort cannot be completed overnight, the government, especially the MOE, should prioritise the construction of this new school.

“The 100th-anniversary celebration of SK Abang Abdul Rahman today is extraordinary and highly significant.

“A century of history reflects the school’s undeniable contributions to the community. It has produced many distinguished individuals, and I believe it will continue to nurture future scholars and leaders. Congratulations,” he added.

Several notable attendees were present at the event, including Kalaka assemblyman Mohamad Duri, Krian assemblyman Friday Belik, Kabong assemblyman Mohd Chee Kadir, Pro-Chancellor of Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) and Chairman of the Saratok Islamic Welfare Trust Board (LAKIS) Datuk Abdul Wahab Aziz and his wife, Saratok District Officer Muhammad Dino Amid, Education Officer of Saratok District Awet Gapor, Headmaster of SK Abang Abdul Rahman Mahrup Engga, and Welcome Committee Chairman Yusuf Trang.
