SUBIS: The chairperson of the Subis District Disaster Management Committee, District Officer Norlila Ulis, along with staff from the Bekenu Constituency Service Centre, led a food distribution operation to assist flood victims in two Temporary Evacuation Centres (PPS) in this district.

PPS Selanyau was officially closed two days ago, followed by the closure of Homestay Peliau today as flood conditions continued to improve.

According to a press release by the Bekenu Constituency Service Center, the food supplies were distributed to PPS SMK Suai, which housed 226 evacuees, and PPS SMK Bekenu, where 198 individuals had sought shelter.

“This brought the total number of evacuees served to 424 people,” it said.

The first batch of food supplies was delivered to PPS SMK Suai at around 12 noon, followed by a second delivery to SMK Bekenu at approximately 2 pm.

The ready-to-eat meals were prepared by Melody Cafe Batu Niah, ensuring that evacuees had access to hot and nutritious food.

“However, observations at both PPS locations revealed that many evacuees had already returned home as the floodwaters had receded significantly,” it said.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation and provide necessary assistance to affected residents as recovery efforts progress.

Also present were Deputy Minister of Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development, Datuk Rosey Yunus, Councillor Sulaiman Ahmad and Penghulu Wan Fauzi.
