BAU: The Bau District Council has been urged to establish dedicated safety Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for homestay operators and water-based recreational sites in the area, in line with efforts to enhance visitor safety.

Deputy Minister of Transport (Riverine and Marine), Datuk Henry Harry Jinep, said that standardising the SOPs would not only help improve the quality of community-based accommodations but also boost confidence among visitors seeking to enjoy experiences in the area.

“I may suggest to the district council that we implement specific SOPs for homestay owners in terms of visitor safety, boat usage and so on, so that all SOPs comply with a unified standard to ensure proper care and operation.

“We need to be more proactive in ensuring awareness of cleanliness and safety, sufficient electricity supply, having fire extinguishers, and ensuring the area is not dark at night.

“These are among the matters that need to be considered by the Bau District Council,” he said during the closing of the Adis Tiporang River Safety and Cleanliness Awareness Programme at Kampung Segong recently.

Jinep, who is also Tasik Biru state assemblyman, proposed that homestay operators be given periodic exposure and training on safety requirements and waste management to ensure their operations remain in good condition and aligned with guidelines set by the local authorities.
